The Nicholson War Memorial, locally known as "The Monument", is a Grade II Listed Building and reputed to be the tallest in the country and the only one with four clock faces. It was built in 1925 by Sir Arthur Nicholson ( a local silk manufacturer) in memory of his son and the local men who were killed in World War One.
We have recently set up a group known as The Friends of The Nicholson War Memorial, who are dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of the memorial and we meet monthly in the Clerk's office. If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Mrs. Julie Taylor on 01538 381271.
The two other war memorials that we maintain are sited at Ball Haye Green Recreation Ground and in Leekbrook.
